For photographers contrast in an image is about the difference between light and dark tones in a scene. If there is not enough contrast a picture will look too gray or dull. But I also think that extends to the contrast between colour and black & white images
Have a look at the image above. The contrast between the colour and the black & white portions of the image stand out for me in favour of the colour. That’s why I rarely ever publish a black & white image.

I like the contrast of the flowing grasses and the rigidity of the brick structure.

Great shot. Can’t help speculating on the origin of the brick structure. Is it the chimeny of a buried building, is it all thats left of an old building and so on…
