Weekly Photo Challenge: Up

It’s been a busy old week so far and I’m now in catch-up mode with my photography challenges. I’ve got the photographs ready but I need to write blog articles for 52/2013, Paul’s Photography Challenge and of course the WordPress challenge. Looks like I’m going to be really busy today.

I was thinking what to do for up. The most obvious thing that comes to mind is tall buildings. We don’t have them where I live as “way back when” there was an ordinance that said buildings couldn’t be higher than the sand dunes.

Or maybe a trip into the mountains of Snowdonia would provide me with something that was up.

As luck would have it I was in Bodnant Garden on Saturday. The garden occupies an area of 32 hectares (80 acres) and most of it was first laid out by Henry Davis Pochin. There are plenty of tall trees and if I photograph the tops then I’m definitely looking up

There are formal gardens bounded by clipped box hedges, ornamental ponds and pools, herbaceous borders, an enclosed laburnum arch and many rose gardens.

It’s been a while since I did any “tree hugging”, no seriously. get up close and personal to a tree. There are some amazing textures in the bark, which can make for a different kind of photograph.

Finally I’d like to leave you with a little bit more about Bodnant and it’s famous breeding program.

Several varieties of Rhododendrons and Azaleas are now grown throughout the world. Then there are the collections of Magnolia, Camellia, Clematis and Hydrangea.
