The beautiful scenery is there, but it cares not for pleasing composition or the quality of light at any moment in time. This is where the artist comes in, arranging in a frame the scattered elements into a story, anticipating and chasing the light, bringing it all together to create an evocative image capable of communicating the visual experience and impressing the grandeur of a fleeting moment on viewers for generations to come. – Guy Tal
I met these four people on the beach a couple of nights back. Not local, they were just visiting for the day. They were polite enough to ask if they would ruin my photograph by swimming near the lighthouse. In reality, they were, but thinking quickly I said no and then asked was it ok to photograph them whilst they were having fun.
An almost set sun, a red sky, in my mind I knew straight away that this was going to be a silhouette shot.
At this point the guy standing on the wall was going to dive in, but changed his mind when he realised how shallow the water was.
I managed to get several photographs and when they came back up the beach I was able to show them the results.
As a footnote to this these were the same people who got stuck on the beach when the car-park closed for the night.
This is a great shot, love it. The single colour and people as shadows very artistic.

Penelope, thank you for taking the time to comment. The single colour was achieved in photoshop but I felt it was necessary to show the silhouettes off to best advantage

Normally I go to this beach and there’s no one there, so it was lucky to see them

Really, really pretty in red and the people in the black. Strange young people but I am glad that the guy did not dive into shallow water. That would have killed him or ruined him for the rest of his life.

Fortunately the girls talked him out of it
