In reality the challenge could encompass anything old, abandoned or decaying. Talacre would be my first choice here as it meets all three of the criteria.

I caught the lighthouse just before the sun set as it was bathed in some absolutely fantastic golden light. Interestingly there was some work going on inside the lighthouse, “tidying up” is how it was described. But the nice young man I spoke to said they were probably going to paint the lighthouse next year.

That would be a shame because it’s a photographers dream at the moment with all those textures and the broken up pattern, exposing the brickwork.

My other choice would be “the Duke”. I have photographed this poor old ship loads of times and it’s getting worse every time I visit it.

Apparently it’s still in very good condition inside. Shame we will never get to see it.

That’s it. I hope you enjoyed the photographs.

  1. Talacre is/has been my all around favorite of your entire collection. I suppose because you have presented that lighthouse in a different context with each photo that’s been posted. It is always stately not matter the light or the weather. If nothing else you have given life to this wonderful landmark and you can be proud of that.

    1. It’s my favourite as well Yvonne. Sometimes I will go there with no intention of taking photographs, especially in the winter. You can walk along the beach for miles and not see a single person.

    1. There was talk of converting the lighthouse into a holiday home. But I don’t think it will ever happen. For one it gets cut off twice a day for several hours by the incoming tide. Secondly I don’t think there are any amenities inside the lighthouse.

      1. I was the same in Cornwall, the first time I photographed ‘The Crowns’ (old tin mine engine houses) at Botallack nr St Just, I was hooked. Just couldn’t resist taking them every time I was down there 🙂
