Summer (/ˈsʌmər/ su-mər) is the warmest of the four temperate seasons, between spring and autumn. At the summer solstice, the days are longest and the nights are shortest, with day-length decreasing as the season progresses after the solstice. This year, 2012, the Summer Solstice is on Thursday 21 June 2012 – Sunrise is @ 4.52 am.
The date of the beginning of summer varies according to climate, culture, and tradition, but when it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and vice versa.
In most countries, children are out of school during this time of year for summer break, although dates vary. In the Northern hemisphere, some begin as early as late May, including the United States. In England and Wales, school ends in mid-July and resumes again in early September. In the Southern hemisphere, school summer holiday dates include the major holidays of Christmas and New Year’s Day. School summer holidays in Australia begin in mid-December and end in late January, with the dates varying between states.
People take advantage of the warmer temperatures by spending more time outdoors during the summer. Activities such as traveling to the beach and picnics occur during summer months. Sports such as cricket, volleyball, skateboarding, baseball, softball, Canadian football, tennis and water polo are played. Water sports also occur. These include water skiing, wake boarding, swimming, surfing, and tubing. Water skiing is a uniquely summer sport, which is done when waters approach their warmest of the year. The modern Olympics have been held during the summer months every four years since 1896 and this year they are being held in London. I’ve managed to get tickets for some of the events so I’ll be spending time in London this year.

This is fascinating – but have to ask what it is – I’ve been wracking my brain and coming up with stage lighting, boat lighting – and alien mothership LOL, but I love the colours and silhouette – perfect summer evening.

It’s stage lighting on the beach. I was at one of these corporate functions in South Africa and they took us to the beach for a Motivation Exercise at sunset. This guy’s job was to get us worked up into a frenzy whilst drummers were giving it welly. I was motivated enough to take photographs of the whole thing
